DJ Ryan presents... U.nplugged f.rom t.he l.ast c.entury

In the 1990s there was a series of artistes that launched a genre of "unplugged" albums - recordings of live and sometimes alternative renditions of well-known and not so well-known songs. These were not studio-manufactured productions auto-tuned to mechanised perfection. Instead, there were raw, stripped down performances that captured every lyrical nuance and vocal idiosyncracy, every pull of the violin or the strum of the guitar, and every enthusiastic call-and-respond interaction between the artiste and the participating audience.
This second instalment of the "F.rom T.he L.ast C.entury" series tries to capture some of my favourite performances from this genre. Enjoy.

I have been with Mr R for almost 5 years now and we have decided to tie the knot on this very day :) I would like to share this joyous moment with all of you by doing a ballad mix. Remembering Stephen Patrick David Gately

Stephen Patrick David Gately (17 March 1976 – 10 October 2009) was an Irish pop singer, songwriter and actor, who, with Ronan Keating, was one of two lead singers in the boy band Boyzone. With Boyzone, Gately had a record-breaking sixteen consecutive singles enter the top five of the UK Singles Chart. After the band's initial breakup, Gately went on to appear variously in stage productions and on television programmes as well recording further solo material. In 2000, he released a debut solo single titled New Beginning and later a debut solo album of the same name. In 2008, he rejoined his bandmates as Boyzone reformed for a series of concerts and recordings.
On 16 June 1999, UK’s The Sun newspaper covered its front page with what it described as a "World Exclusive" and the headline, "Boyzone Stephen: I'm gay and I'm in love". At the age of 23 then, Gately also revealed that in 1998 he had started a relationship with the then 27 year-old Eloy de Jong, who had been in the Dutch boy band Caught in the Act. Gately and de Jong split up in January 2002. After remaining single for a while, Gately started dating internet businessman Andrew Cowles, who had been introduced to him by mutual friends Elton John and David Furnish. Gately and Cowles held a commitment ceremony in a wedding chapel whilst on holiday in Las Vegas in 2003. On 19 March 2006, Gately entered into a civil partnership with Cowles in a ceremony in London. The cause of his death while holidaying in Majorca, Spain on 10 Oct 2009 remains unknown at time of print.
This mix is a compilation of 25 songs from Stephen Gately’s only album and Boyzone’s extensive list of ballads. RIP, Stephen.

This a ballad mixset and it's specially dedicated to May Yuen. Dear YYY,

Remembering Patrick Swayze

Patrick Wayne Swayze (August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009) was an American actor, dancer and singer-songwriter best-known for his roles in the hit films "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost". He was listed by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991.
He took Jennifer Grey's breath away as Johnny Castle ("Dirty Dancing"), made Demi Moore's eyes quiver with tears as Sam Wheat's spirit ("Ghost"), a and thrusted the pottery scene in the movie into mainstream pop consciousness. After all that, he turned his masculinity on its head as the motherly drag queen Vida Boheme in "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything!" His rendition of "She's Like The Wind" on the soundtrack of "Dirty Dancing" was a radio hit in 1986, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
This mix, consisting of songs from the various movies he acted in, is a farewell tribute to him. He will always be remembered as the working class sensitive lover with a tender heart of gold; a rare combination of masculinity and athletic grace. RIP, Patrick.
